The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) is deeply concerned about the case of the Macedonian journalist Tomislav Kezharovski and demands putting a stop to the “absurd” charges against him.
In their letter to the Macedonia Ambassador Andrej Lepavcov, EFJ points to the unlawful punishment imposed on Kezharovski for revealing the identity of the police witness and for refusing to disclose its sources.
“We are profoundly disappointed that your Government continues to ignore the fundamental international principles and values of the independent journalism and does nothing to protect the freedom of the press, the investigative journalism and the freedom of expression” –is stated, among the other things, in EFJ`s letter to the Macedonian Ambassador in Brussels.
EFJ also calls on the Macedonian authorities to undertake urgent and proper steps for journalism to stop being socially and economically the most dangerous profession in the country.
The biggest journalist organization which represents more than 320.000 media professionals in more than 60 countries further appealed to all its members to send letters to the Macedonian ambassadors in their respective countries with the same message for acquittal of Kezharovski.
